Besides being a protected World Heritage site according to the UNESCO List, Italy's famous Dolomites have been hosting for four years one of the most exciting and stunning road cycling event in the country. Marcialonga Cycling is to blow out 5 candles next May 29th, and Fiemme and Fassa valleys (in Trentino region) will surely be more than happy to welcome the hundreds of cyclists who will invade the area at the end of May.
Last May, despite rain and cold weather, about 1.500 cyclists joined the race along the two routes, the “short course” (80 km total length, 1.894 meters total climb with maximum gradient 18,2%) and the “long course” (135,4 km total length, 3.279 meters total climb – max. height 2.038 meters on Valles Pass – with maximum gradient 19,2%).
Three passes through the Dolomites, namely Lavazè, San Pellegrino and Valles, and the spectacular routes crossing the provinces of Trento, Bolzano and Belluno, make the Marcialonga Cycling a highly technical and fascinating competition.
Marcialonga Cycling can be viewed as an exciting challenge against all the opponents, but also against yourself, a fantastic race surrounded by a sensational natural landscape that makes this event unique.
The Marcialonga OC, lead by Alfredo Weiss and Gloria Trettel, is ready to stage the 38th Marcialonga as well, on January 30th, 2011. The cross-country long distance ski race will be hosting more than 7.000 participants.
Next year’s Marcialonga Cycling will be one of three competitions, along with the ski marathon and the Marcialonga Running (scheduled for September 4th, 2011), that forms the Combined Event Punto 3 Craft.
