The 6th Marcialonga Cycling Craft to jump on the saddle next 27th May
Over 2.100 participants ready to ride their bikes through the Dolomites
Renowned XC skiers Aukland, Zorzi and Piller Cottrer among the entries
An intense weekend on the road in Trentino region with Giro d’Italia
Road cycling: what a season for Italy’s Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa. In ten days, the alpine valleys in Trentino region will be hosting the 6th Marcialonga Cycling Craft road race and on Friday 25th May the Giro d’Italia will also be crossing the Dolomite passes with the third last leg of the 2012 series.
The latest updates on the race entries say that over 2.100 cyclists from 18 different countries will be showing up in Predazzo on Sunday 27th May, and among them there will be some well-known cross country skiers and winter sports characters.
Cristian Zorzi and Pietro Piller Cottrer wore the gold medal in Relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and they are now ready to say their piece, but they won’t the only skiers registered in the 2012 Marcialonga Cycling Craft. Jørgen Aukland of Norway won the 2012 Marcialonga ski-marathon last January and he will also be at the start in ten days time, along with Italian Loris Frasnelli, Bruno Debertolis and Nicola Morandini, who recently joined the Swedish based long distance ski team.
Last year, about 2.150 cyclists took part in the race along the two routes, the “short course” (80 km total length, 1.894 meters total climb with maximum gradient 18,2%) and the “long course” (135,4 km total length, 3.279 meters total climb – max. height 2.038 meters on Valles Pass – with maximum gradient 19,2%).
Three passes through the Dolomites, namely Lavazè (also touched by the Giro two days earlier), San Pellegrino and Valles, and the spectacular routes crossing the provinces of Trento, Bolzano and Belluno make the Marcialonga Cycling Craft a highly technical and fascinating competition.
Entries to the 6th Marcialonga Cycling Craft remain open but the Marcialonga Main Board is seriously thinking about closing before the race date due to safety reasons. You better think about register your name then, if you don’t want to miss the 2012 Marcialonga Cycling Craft experience. Entry fee: 33 Euro on www.marcialonga.it, Cycling section.
