theme of the week: STOP, RESET, RESTART

The first month of training for Marcialonga Coop scheduled on 5th September is completed.
Many runners may face obstacles such as fatigue. There are many causes for this. 
When we talk about physical and mental fatigue, we may suffer from overtraining. Overtraining can result in mood changes, decreased motivation, frequent injuries and even infections. Burnout is thought to be a result of the physical and emotional stress of training. Overtraining syndrome happens often to the professional athletes, who fail to recover adequately from training and competition.

When we talk about amateur athletes, the mental fatigue does not depend on overtraining. What caused it?

It may happen that during preparation you realize that you are not ready enough to face the workload or that you cannot achieve the planned intermediate goals. You are frustrated and you lose the motivation.
It may happen that you are bored: if you are not having fun, you give up.
Daily commitments can also play an important role. Sport is a breath of fresh air, but when it becomes an obligation it could turn into stress. Moreover an intense period of work or daily commitments could compromise the workouts, once again leading to a sense of frustration.
Then there are also personal issues, linked to family or work and that does not allow to have the right state of mind for sport.

When the mind does not cooperate, also the body gives up: it is the moment to stop. It is necessary to rest the body and the mind, unplug, think about anything else. This allows you to "reset", understand your priorities, focus better on the objectives and then restart with more energy and often with more awareness than before.

Remember that the programs offered by the running coach Giulia are useful for many runners but you need to adapt them to your personal situation and understand when you are positively tired or when you are really tired.

 

When the mind, the body or both ask for a stop, just do it. Rememeber what Giulia has written on her instagram profile: a stop at the right time is worth more than many workouts which in that case would be useless and exhausting.
