theme of the week: THE CHOICE OF THE RUNNING SHOES

Giulia said it over and over again: pay attention to the choice of running shoes”.

We talked about it before starting the training program but we still want to pay attention to this theme.

Running is one of the cheapest sports because it does not require a specific equipment, except for the running shoes. In the specialized shop we realize how many types of running shoes exist. The first instinct leads us to choose the most beautiful, the most colourful, or the same shoes of a friend, but it is important to focus on the most suited to us and our characteristics.

The choice of the shoes must consider many variables such as the type of terrain on which you run, the weight, the foot, the average distance, the style, and the technique. It may be difficult to understand these characteristics and it is better to ask for advice to an expert. But why? A wrong choice could be a source of important physical problems such as pain in the sole of the foot (plantar fasciitis), in the calves or in the tibial area (tibial stress).

The running shoes must guarantee comfort, cushioning and stability. When we have found the perfect shoes, we must make sure that they are not small and not too right - that's why it is better to try it in the store and not buy online. When running, the feet swells and the shoes that felt right could turn out to be tight. To avoid this, it is better to choose a slightly larger size.

Finally, you have found your shoes! Now be carefully do not tie them too tight - the risk is an inflammation - and not too wide. The foot must be stable without being suffocated.

Now two notes about durability and maintenance. The life of the running shoes is from 700 to 800 km but sometimes even less, for example shoes that are washed in the washing machine, dried in the dryer or near heat sources deteriorate earlier. When you realize that the sole is worn out or that you don’t feel stability or cushioning, buy new shoes. But be careful not to do it the day before a race: the feet and the shoes must have time to adapt better to each other.
