Around 40 years ago, when the first Marcialonga took place in Italy’s Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, nobody surely thought that this event would become later on the most popular Nordic ski race in the country and one of the most appreciated in the world.
In recent years, the interest for Marcialonga from Nordic participants has grown dramatically and in last January’s race, as it happened the year before, skiers from Northern Europe were more than those from Italy.
Having said that and carefully observed what happens in other major sport event such as the New York Marathon, the Marcialonga Organising Committee, lead by Alfredo Weiss, has decided to entrust some experienced tour operators to handle part of the registrations in Marcialonga 2013 of the competitors from Sweden and Norway.
Although wrongly reported, the numbers of participants from these two countries will remain the same as in the last years.
A list of those travel agencies that have been co-operating with Marcialonga for years, and to which Scandinavian athletes might address to have the best chance to take part in Marcialonga 2013 will be published on the official Marcialonga webpage www.marcialonga.it, shortly.
The numbers of participants to the 2013 race (scheduled on 27 January) won’t be increased due to the narrowness of most part of the course and the Marcialonga OC aims to provide the best service to all skiers of any age and any country. Marcialonga is first and foremost a pleasure for everyone, and everyone is more than welcome to join it. See you next January.
