Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa likes it vintage
Entries open to the 2nd Marcialonga Story scheduled on January 25
Original equipment only and a maximum of 300 participants
Several side events on the last week-end of January
“What a show”, everybody exclaimed last January when thousands of cross-country ski lovers and superstars gathered in Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme for the 40th Marcialonga. On the eve of the long-distance XC race, the Marcialonga OC organised a promotional event named Marcialonga Story and around 300 participants experienced the true, ancient spirit of XC skiing, wearing original equipment only. What a show it was!
On Saturday 25 January the Marcialonga Story vintage event will get back on track and entries opened in these days. All information is available on www.marcialonga.it.
The first running of the Italian ski-marathon took place in 1971 with roughly a thousand competitors lined up at the start. The following year this figure tripled up. To celebrate the old times, Marcialonga OC set up the Marcialonga Story event once again, scheduled the day before the race, and it will be racing an 11k semi-flat course from Lago di Tesero to Predazzo town centre. A Register of vintage cross-country skis has been created in order to collect information, data and pictures of skis crafted in different years, and is available on www.marcialonga.it.
Franco Nones, the first non-Scandinavian and non-Russian male to win a Winter Olympic XC skiing gold medal (Grenoble 1968), took part in the 2013 Marcialonga Story race and he couldn’t but wear bib number 1, other than the complete 1968 outfit (wax included…).
Further side events will be taking place during the last week-end of January 2014 such as Marcialonga Young, Marcialonga Stars and Minimarcialonga for children.
