Marcialonga keeps paying great attention to protecting the environment
A new generation diesel oil from Tamoil to be used during next winter season
The new biofuel comes from Finland and is made from organic materials and waste
Italian winter ski-marathon scheduled on 31 January 2016

Marcialonga means success and fun from a sport point of view, the Italian winter event in Trentino region is considered one of the greatest in Europe and, from an environmental point of observation, Marcialonga has always been caring for the environment it takes place into since 1971. The recently signed partnership with Tamoil - a major operator in the oil and energy industry in Italy and Europe - proves commitment by the Marcialonga OC to continuous reduction of the environmental impact of the Italian skimarathon, starting from the tracks' preparation.
On average, 10.000 liters of oil are used every winter season by snow cats, grooms, trucks and various tools and machinery to set the cross country skiing tracks in the best way through Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, where Marcialonga takes place and where tourists and ski lovers enjoy their days during the winter. From October 2015, the Tamoil Group will distribute in the Northern part of Italy a so-called 'New Generation Diesel' derived from renewable resources and thanks to the above-mentioned partnership, from next winter season onwards the Marcialonga team will be using this new biofuel made 30% of organic materials, animal fats plus industrial and urban waste.
In so doing, cross country skiing as a discipline and Marcialonga as a whole clearly show and underline their 'clean attitude' towards the planet and the people they both deal with.
The agreement between Tamoil and Marcialonga was signed in Moena a few days ago, in the same town where the winter ski-marathon will be kicking off next 31 January and celebrating its 43rd running ever. Entries to the race are closed, the maximum number of registrations has been reached last summer and only some spots have been left empty for the pros, such as Norwegian Kristin Størmer Steira who recently married Canadian skier Devon Kershaw and confirmed she will be at the start of the Italian event in about four months.
