In exactly 100 days a new chapter of Italy's Marcialonga will be written on the snow of both Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa (Trentino region). Next 29 January, both the alpine valleys will host not only a sport event, but something that is in the DNA of cross country skiers of all nations.
Last January, while waiting for the last participant to cross the finish line at the end of the 70k-long course from Moena to Cavalese, happiness and excitement were palpable and the final fireworks were simply emotional.
As said, Italy's Marcialonga in more than a game, more than a mere sport competition. Marcialonga - literally 'The Long March' - is energy, fun and a fantastic challenge with 8.000 XC skiing lovers and champions from anywhere in the world who wouldn't ever miss the opportunity to ski surrounded by the majestic Dolomites and through the picturesque little towns in beautiful Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa.
Back in 1970, four friends - Mario Cristofolini, Giulio Giovannini, Roberto Moggio and Nele Zorzi - had the idea, they wanted to bring the Swedish Vasaloppet to Trentino region. 'A crazy idea', someone said. In 100 days, that crazy idea will get back on track celebrating the 44th running ever.
Marcialonga can't wait to jump back in the snow while skiers keep counting down the days. One hundred to...ski.
