Green light for registrations for the 12th Marcialonga Story
On January 26th, the historical narrow skis re-enactment during the “golden hour”
With number 1 will start Silvano Barco, great protagonist at Marcialonga in the past
Open also registrations for the side events MiniMarcialonga and Young
Marcialonga knows how to maintain alive the spirit of the Trentino granfondo that embraces the Fiemme and Fassa Valleys on the last weekend of January. For four whole days, people will live on sport, music, games and fun in total sharing and even take a step back in time.
Among the side events, there is the Marcialonga Story on January 26th, a historical re-enactment on narrow skis now in its 12th edition, where cross-country skiers display vintage rarities and articles dating back to the early 1970s such as wooden or plastic skis and bamboo poles. On the white and fluffy snow carpet, hundreds of old-style athletes will parade at the “golden hour” for more or less ten kilometres, always accompanied by cheering from trackside. Everything is almost as a true race, starting at 4:30 pm on the tracks of the Lago di Tesero cross-country Stadium and, between a break and another to catch your breath and say hello to a few friends, the “journey” continues toward the destination in Predazzo.
Registrations for the Marcialonga Story are available online and the only obligation for the cross-country skiers is to show up at the starting gate with skis prior to 1976, 75mm wide bindings, shoes and poles appropriate to the skis and clothing corresponding to that period. There is no ranking, but last January the first to appear on the long final catwalk in Piazza SS. Apostoli was Angelo Andreola from Valtellina, always the protagonist of the Marcialonga Story. The final skit with his cousin Antonella Confortola, bronze medallist in the Turin 2006 Olympic relay race, was very funny: together they almost completed a vintage-style 'relay race'. By now, the Marcialonga Story has become a meeting place for former athletes such as Cristian Zorzi, Marco Albarello and for many 'Senastory' such as Gloria Trettel and Marino Sbetta, Marcialonga's historic refreshment point manager. Silvano Barco, winner of the Marcialonga in 1994, stands out among the entrants. He boasts three podiums in the World Cup, 10 medals at the Italian Championships and took part, in his career, in the Calgary 1988 Olympic Games and in two World Championships, with a 4th place in the relay in Fiemme 1991.
Registrations are already open also for the MiniMarcialonga, the non-competitive race for children between 6 and 12 years old scheduled on January 27th at Lago di Tesero, and for the Young, open to the U14, U16, U18 and U20 categories and taking place on 27th and 28th January.
With the Marcialonga Running Coop last September, the Punto3 Craft team combination came to a conclusion: the winner was the 'Avvoltoi delle Dolomiti' team made up of Stefano Mich, Andrea Rovisi and Gaia Panozzo, who divided the ski, cycling and running events, completing the triptych with a total time of 8h17'36". With the Marcialonga Skiing on Sunday January 28th, a new contest will therefore begin again!
The challenges of Marcialonga, however, certainly do not end in January and with Marcialonga Arctic Ski Race, a new event in the Ski Classics Challengers circuit due to take place on March 9th, cross-country skiers will experience great emotions in the unique setting of Bodø, Norway.
The Dolomites call and the "bison" of all ages always answer, and in the meantime, the 50+1 edition is in the planning.
