Projections of Marcialonga 50+1 participants are promising, on the 28th January show assured
Norway and Sweden compete (also) for the record of the foreign nation with the most participants
“Bisons” coming from all over Italy, many provinces represented at the start in Moena
For Ski Classics there is no shortage of big names: Smedås and Fleten, Persson and Nygaard
That Marcialonga is a successful brand is a fact and it is a pleasure to reaffirm it, also thinking back to the big Marcialonga-signed events that during 2023 were able to involve more than 11 thousands people, including not only the ski marathon on narrow skis but also the Cycling and Running variants.
For the 51st edition of the world’s most famous granfondo in Trentino, scheduled for Sunday 28th of January, the registrations figures are encouraging, with a high participations of Italian cross-country skiers and a large group of foreign athletes.
Regarding foreign countries, the eternal head-to-head between Norway and Sweden truly seems never-ending, with the two countries that compete not only for the victory of the Marcialonga on skis but also for the record among the foreign countries with the most participants. The two Nordic nations join Italy on the virtual podium of the countries with the most registered participants in the 51st edition, with more than a thousand cross-country skiers of each nationality lined up on the starting grid.
Looking at the 'home nation' one can see a very good representation of our regions, with registered athletes residing in as many as 60 different Italian provinces. A truly precious boast for the Val di Fiemme and Fassa granfondo to have among its 'bisons' cross-country skiers from all over the country.
When it comes to the great challenge for the victory of Marcialonga with Ski Classics, it is very difficult to make predictions. Big names are expected among the athletes of the top international long-distance circuit. In the women’s field, the Norwegians Magni Smedås and Emilie Fleten will have the chance to be protagonists, with the first having triumphed last January on the finish line in Cavalese and will be looking for a historic double victory, while the latter has not yet managed to climb the top step of the podium of the Marcialonga, but will try with all her might after her second place in the 2021 edition. Intense and heated duels are also expected among males, with the Swedish champion Emil Persson who, with a brilliant and dominating season like the last one behind, will once again renew the challenge with the Norwegian Nygaard, first among the contenders for the victory to “snatch” from the Swedish colleague.
Statistics and predictions aside, what is certain is the inimitable spectacularity of Marcialonga, ready to offer a late January dream for the umpteenth time.
