Marcialonga Story has made its debut this morning

No matter how much time it takes you to get to the finish, no matter you cross the line for first or the last, no matter if you ski as professional cross country skier, the main thing is to experience the true spirit of the Nordic discipline, at least for once. The history of Italy’s Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa has been made this morning by the… new Marcialonga Story event. Around 300 skiers turned up at the XC stadium in Lago di Tesero (the one hosting the Nordic World Ski Championships in less than a month) and gave life to a stunning vintage-event, all wearing skis, boots, jumpers and entire outfits from those days.
Franco Nones, 1968 Grenoble gold medallist, wore bib number 1 and the complete outfit from the Olympics (wax included!). Several participants of today’s Marcialonga Story event took part in one or more Marcialongas in the past years, but many people were just sport fans, common people living in the area and practicing xc skiing, or even a 16-years old girl who decided to join the race, because her dad got a flu yesterday and was not able to get on track, so she put on his stuff and joined the enthusiastic group of 300.
Just for the record, the Marcialonga Story event was won by Eugenja Bichugova and Paolo Pellegrin.
As said, the vintage-event has made its debut this morning, but the OC has already started to think about a second edition for next year. Meanwhile, the 40th Marcialonga di Fiemme e Fassa will get on track tomorrow at 8.15am with more than 7500 registered athletes.
