Clock ticks fast and Marcialonga quickly moves closer. The Italian ski-marathon will get back on track for the 42nd time on Sunday 25 January, 2015, and 7.500 skiers from all over the planet will gather in beautiful Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme in the north-eastern part of the country. In exactly 100 days, cross country skiing lovers – also from Australia, Israel and South Africa amongst over 30 countries – will be enjoying the classical 70k-long course that links the little town of Moena with Cavalese and crosses both the alpine valleys surrounded by the majestic Dolomites.
As one of the world’s most appreciated popular races, Marcialonga is part of the Worldloppet and Swix Ski Classics circuits and is also member of the 2014/2015 FIS Marathon Cup. This is one of the reasons why several XC skiing superstars and even World champions join the event every year, as Tord Asle Gjerdalen who confirmed his presence at the start of the 2015 Marcialonga. The Norwegian skier won the Relay world title at the 2013 Nordic World Ski Championships held in Val di Fiemme and is coming back to the Dolomites in order to draw his national team attention in view of Falun 2015. Gjerdalen will be wearing the Team Centric suit, along with teammates Anders and Jørgen Aukland, last January’s winner Simen Østensen and Jerry Ahrlin from Sweden. Team United Bakeries surely represents another important squad at the start of the 2015 Marcialonga with John Kristian Dahl and Johan Kjølstad who came in second and fourth respectively the very last time. The well-known Olympic Champion Thomas Alsgaard will be leading the Team LeasePlan Go and will be flanked by Anders Södergren, Petter Eliassen and Cristoffer Callesen, while Team Coop will show up with 2010 winner Oskar Svärd and countrymen Jimmie Johnsson and Bill Impola among others.
On the women’s side, Swiss Seraina Boner will be chasing the third victory in career, but she will have to challenge strong opponents such as Vibeke Skofterud, Laila Kveli and Annika Löfström.
Along with next Marcialonga several side events are already scheduled both on Saturday and Sunday, such as the ‘Story’ race or the ‘Minimarcialonga’ dedicated to children and due to blow out 30 candles.
Next 25 January the Combined Event Punto3 Craft will also kick off, three Marcialonga-branded events during the year, namely the winter ski-marathon, the road cycling race on 14 June (Marcialonga Cycling Craft) and the Marcialonga Running race (scheduled on 6 September 2015). Those who already registered for the winter event have the opportunity to grab a start number for the Cycling and Running races with a €15 discount on the total. Entries to this exclusive price deal are open for teams until 21 January 2015, while individuals may register until 4 September 2015.
