She was picked amongst four candidates and elected Marcialonga's new ambassador.
Eleonora Dellantonio was dressed in traditional costume, so were Karin Corradini, Deborah Varesco and Sabrina Vanzo last night in the little town of Pozza di Fassa, but the jury eventually chose her, the one who in their views better embodies the Marcialonga spirit and people from Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa.
Eleonora is active in sports and social work – last winter she taught disabled people to ski – she fluently speaks English, German, Spanish and Ladin and, as she said, she's literally in love with her mountains, the Dolomites and the Lagorai chain that surround Predazzo, the town where she was born and where she lives.
Since 2002, Marcialonga's Soreghina is annually elected and Eleonora is the first Soreghina from Predazzo where the Marcialonga headquarters are located.
Marcialonga means sport at the highest level, but also active tourism in the area of Trentino region and Soreghina also carries the cultural values and traditions of Marcialonga around the world in an ongoing process of internationalisation of an event that next January will celebrate the 45th running ever.
According to an ancient local legend, Soreghina is a beautiful princess who lived amongst the stunning Dolomites and had to fall asleep before the sunset every day, she was the 'Daughter of the Sun'.
Last night, the new Soreghina bent the rules and stayed up until late enjoying the dancing and music shows in Pozza di Fassa, and, above all, her brand new crown handed by the former Soreghina Camilla Canclini.
'I didn't expect to win at all – claimed and joked Eleonora Dellantonio – give me a couple of minutes to understand what has just happened and I'll be ready to crown the Marcialonga Running winners in September.'
During the ceremony, the Marcialonga OC awarded four scholarships to four high school students living in the area who recently had brilliant results at school, in sports and social work. Gloria Trettel (CEO Marcialonga) also announced important news fro the 2018 Marcialonga to be unveiled next autumn.
As said, Eleonora Dellantonio will represent Marcialonga for the season to come, starting from next Marcialonga Running Coop race on 3 September.
