“Sport should be open to everyone”. This is one of the famous quotations of Pierre De Coubertin. Marcialonga keeps this in mind and prepares for the new sport event: Marcialonga Running Coop on September 6. It is a must, it will take place!
It is not only a race, it in an event involving the whole community, with the support of hundreds of volunteers and the ambition of many passionate runners.
After a long meeting that was held last night, the Marcialonga OC decided that the running event will take place, bearing in mind the safety measures to contain the Covid-19.
Until September 6 the situation could still change, but the OC board with President Angelo Corradini and CEO Davide Stoffie is determined to organize the event in the beautiful Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa.
It will not be like in the usual race, starting in a big group from the center of Moena, but with no doubts Marcialonga Running Coop will celebrate its 18th edition. Runners will start at staggered times individually and maintaining social distancing. A bigger part of the track will be along the cycling path of Val di Fiemme, avoiding the center of the villages in order to limitate groups of spectators. It is a real pity as villages and people are the core aspect of the Marcialonga events, but the situation calls for security and different measures. Refreshment points are organized in a way to avoid social contact, no pasta party nor final refreshment but a tasty packet lunch will be delivered at the end of the run.
The track will be about 400m longer, countiong 26,4km from Moena to Cavalese.
The big determination of the Organizing Committee needs to be highlighted. No white flag, but the event will also represent a test for the winter event in January. For the runners it will be a different experience, but for sure very satisfying. The track crosses now even more green areas and runs along inedit parts that have been opened short before and that will be skied in winter as well.
Unfortunately, this year the Mini running event and the relay race have been cancelled, but they will take place again in 2021.
There will be a limited amount of spots for the Running Coop event, that will see maximun 1500 runners at its start, to guarantee starts and arrivals within a short period of time.
