Marcialonga 2024 was awarded “Event of the Year” of the Ski Classics circuit
Clear-cut victory with 21.1% of the votes from athletes, staff and executives
3rd success for the Fiemme and Fassa ski-marathon, enthusiasm of the president Corradini
The director Davide Stoffie: the right recognition after an intense year of work
We are the champions, my friends…it is the chorus of the famous Queen’s song that resounds in the Predazzo venue of Marcialonga, which thanks to its 51st edition staged on January 28th, celebrates for the third time the victory as “Event of the Year” in the prestigious Ski Classics circuit.
Ski Classics is the ultimate expression of international long-distance skiing, a true global championship in which Marcialonga is an inevitable iconic stage. As per tradition, at the end of each sporting season the notorious rankings for the champion title are draft, followed by those for the best climbers, sprinter and young athletes. There are fierce competitions also among the Pro Teams, who fight race after race to earn a place at the top of the ranking. And finally yet importantly the special contest that awards the coveted title of “Event of the Year”. Since 2018, year in which the contest among the ski-marathon was introduced, Marcialonga has won three first places and four second places, a clear sign that the result obtained at the end of this season is not accidental, but the effect of an appreciated format over time.
Each ski-marathon, to be elected “Event of the Year”, needs the votes of Pro Team athletes, their staff and the Ski Classics executives, who had no doubts: with a net 21.1% of preferences, it is Marcialonga to win the title. After the successes in 2018 and 2019, Marcialonga drops the tris and brings home the umpteenth bonus, distancing the South Tyrolean 3 Zinnen Ski Marathon and the Norwegian Birkebeinerrennet, second equal with 18.9%, and followed by the other Norwegian Reistadlopet with 8.1%. Wooden medal for Vasaloppet (SWE) at 7.6%.
Lots of enthusiasm in the Marcialonga headquarters in Predazzo, where president Angelo Corradini does not sin of modesty when he declares that “I was expecting this victory, because with a splendid edition like the one we put on this year we deserved the recognition”, and he adds: “the CEO of Ski Classics, David Nilsson, confided to me that for him Marcialonga is the best race on the scene, and coming from someone of his calibre this is not a made-up sentence. I want to dedicate the victory of this title to the entire community of our area: it is thanks to the hospitality, transport and courtesy of our people that Marcialonga is what it is. Not to mention the invaluable contribution of the volunteers who make the event possible,” Corradini concludes with satisfaction.
General manager Davide Stoffie also agrees, emphasizing how winning the title of “Event of the Year” is not only a great recognition after an intense year of work, but also a great stimulus to continue to improve: “this victory is the icing on the cake that rewards us for the work done so far and, no less important, it gives us the drive to continue and carry on with our projects. Projects that will not be long in coming, because the 2025 edition on 26th January is already in the pipeline...
After decades of memorable editions and successes on all fronts, it can truly be said: Marcialonga: no one like you.
