The 53rd Marcialonga 2026 crowned ‘event of the Year’ by the Ski Classics circuit
4th success for the famous Trentino ski marathon, reconfirming its status yet again
The satisfaction of Romito and Stoffie: “An extraordinary result that rewards our teamwork”
The Marcialonga in Fiemme and Fassa returns on January 31st, 2027, with the awaited 54th edition

The Vasaloppet is the mother of all long-distance cross-country ski races. It is also the most attended, attracting around 40,000 competitors across its various associated events. Yet there is no doubt that the most beloved in the world is the Marcialonga in Fiemme and Fassa. Its charm, its history - the next edition will be the 54th –its course that passes through villages, the spectators and the whole atmosphere make it a unique event of its kind, particularly appreciated by Scandinavians.
Held on January 25, it once again secured a prestigious recognition by being re-elected ‘Event of the Season’ on the Ski Classics circuit, establishing itself as the best ski marathon amongst the world’s most important long-distance cross-country skiing competitions. This success rewards not only the event itself, but also the entire territory and its extraordinary organisational skills, confirming once again the central role of the Marcialonga on the international Nordic skiing scene.
Tiziano Romito, president of Marcialonga, emphasises the significance of this achievement: ‘Marcialonga has brought cross-country skiing in the Fiemme and Fassa valleys, growing and helping the region to flourish, paving the way for major events hosted in Val di Fiemme, such as the three nordic skiing World Championships, and, in 2026, becoming one of the host venues for the Olympics. There is great satisfaction in receiving this prestigious award, especially for an edition affected by the weather, but which was managed to the best of our ability. A heartfelt thank you must go to the volunteers from the valleys, extraordinary people without whom neither Marcialonga nor the territory would be what they are today.’
General Director Davide Stoffie shares this view: ‘This result is the fruit of great teamwork: this recognition represents a great honour for all of us and is the real icing on the cake of a year’s work shared by an entire community and a territory that lives and breathes sport. Marcialonga is much more than just a race: it is the tangible expression of the commitment of volunteers, local institutions, companies and people from the sporting world and beyond, together with the community of the Fiemme Valley and the Fassa Valley, who join forces to build something unique, a shared project that grows year after year and is designed to stand the test of time. Today, the Marcialonga looks forward with pride to its 54th edition, a symbol of longevity built since 1971, thanks to its ability to evolve without ever losing its original spirit. The extraordinary weather conditions of the last edition meant that not everything went as we would have liked: we are perfectionists, and we continue to ask ourselves questions in order to improve, but this very recognition from Ski Classics confirms that our model works even in the most challenging situations and reinforces the overall value of the experience. Never before have images of the Marcialonga under the snow been seen around the world as they were in 2026, becoming an extraordinary showcase for cross-country skiing enthusiasts and for the whole of Trentino. Looking to the future, our commitment is clear: to continue to grow, to be ready even in the most difficult conditions, and to attend to every detail with the same passion and dedication that have guided us for over fifty years.”
This is not the first time that Marcialonga has been hailed as the best cross-country skiing event. The 2026 award marks its fourth victory, based on votes cast by team managers, athletes and the Ski Classics management; however, since the award’s establishment, it has consistently featured on the podium, adding four second-place finishes and one third-place finish to its four first-place wins.
Congratulations also came from Oskar Svärd, Director of Ski Classics, who added: ‘Marcialonga holds a special place in long-distance cross-country skiing. It is a blend of history, unique atmospheres and breathtaking scenery that unites all its participants, from elite athletes to amateurs and spectators alike. This fourth win is a well-deserved recognition.’
For Marcialonga, after the well-deserved celebrations, it is already time to get back to work and hit the track, this time on two wheels, with the 18th Marcialonga Cycling Craft, scheduled for Sunday, May 31. After that, the next event is in September with the Marcialonga Running Coop, which will precede the 54th edition of the Marcialonga on cross-country skis on January 31, 2027… There is only one goal: never settle and keep improving!
