Marcialonga involves athletes from all over the world and seeing satisfaction in the eyes of those who arrive at the finish line is a motive of great pride and gratification.
The joy that every competitor proves is certainly due to the beauty of the course and of the territory, but a key component is the inhabitants of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys. They are people who live Marcialonga as spectators and who, in addition to competitors and volunteers, find this moment as a further motivation of celebration and hospitality, running along the track, acclaiming the protagonists, encouraging all skiers, either known or strangers, calling them by name to their passage.
Ever since the early years of the event, when the unbelief was widespread, the response of the “valligiani”, the inhabitants of the valleys, was impressive and it continues to be so even now. Inimitable human heat, with the sympathy and a sense of welcome that people share as something logical, natural, within an atmosphere that, in every country and every environment, everybody is surely happy to breathe. The bells are playing and in every village there is an excitement to organize side initiatives and moments of folklore. Among the houses, along the streams, in the plains at the foot of the mountains, it is an endless line of hospitality, destined to remain intact even when the day ends and the Marcialonga participants return home.
Taking part in the Marcialonga and getting in contact with the people, you could breathe the suggestion of a world still full of true values, where the “valligiani” are genuine and proud of their own territory and traditions.
