MARCIALONGA, IT'S RAINING NORWEGIANS

News date26.01.2025

A rainy but spectacular nonetheless Marcialonga to Fleten and Nygaard
Emilie Fleten stronger than misfortune: falls, catches up and celebrates in Cavalese
For Nygaard a success dreamt since forever, made real by the team’s work
15th Patscheider, 32nd Busin and on with the party for the almost 7000 bisonti

To damage the Marcialonga charm, more than a little bit of rain is needed: the ski marathon of Fiemme and Fassa celebrated its 52nd edition with the success of the Norwegians Emilie Fleten and Andreas Nygaard, authors of great feats between Moena and Cavalese in the Marcialonga-branded festival and participated by almost 7000 ‘bisonti’ today.
The men’s race paraded first along the Fiemme and Fassa valleys with a high pace from the start for the best who outdistanced the group. Before reaching Predazzo, Vebjoern Moen (Team Eksjöhus) and Mathias Aas Rolid (Team Ragde Charge) tried to detach themselves from the group by putting a few seconds between them and their direct rivals. The leading pair was short-lived, however, first because Moen, after attempting an attack, went off the track and lost contact with Rolid, and then because Rolid himself was caught up by a train of three outstanding athletes: Andreas Nygaard, Max Novak and Amund Hoel, with the latter showing off the Leader’s yellow bib. The ‘Mur de la Stria’ was decisive and messed up the leading quartet's order with its average gradient of 9% and stretches of 20%. The Norwegian Andreas Nygaard defeated the Sweden Max Novak in a final to the last breath, while Amund Hoel (NOR) finished in third place.
The women’s race is all in the name of the resilience and resistance of Emilie Fleten: the Norwegian champion of the Ramudden Team gave proof of her strength in the 70 km from Moena to Cavalese, after a fall on the way back between Soraga and Moena that seemed to have compromised for good her performance exactly when the rivals Anikken Gjerde Alnæs and Silje Øyre Slind were going wild with Jenny Larsson just ahead. With double poling Fleten caught up with her rivals and after facing 68 km going all out, she set an unbearable pace in the final climb, gifting herself a solitary finish ahead of Slind and Alnæs.
Hundreds of bisonti went wild in the 20th Marcialonga Light of 45 km, which saw Tommaso Dellagiacoma and Anna Giordan as winners ahead of Anna Aukland.
In the weekend Marcialonga was also Young with the U14, U16 and ‘giovani’ competing. The best were: U14 Adele Andreoli and Lorenzo Briscoli, U16 Heidi Debertolis and Federico Sartori, and Giovani Laura Cavazzani and Carlo Cantaloni.
After the winners and Ski Classics professionals arrival, the organising committee has also almost 7000 bisonti to celebrate in today’s race, which makes special and unique the most loved ski marathon in the world.
