Italy's most prestigious cross country skiing event Marcialonga was unveiled in Trento today at Cavit headquarters, one of the main partners of the event since the beginning.
'We announce with extreme pride and happiness that the entire 70k-long track is set', claimed OC's President Angelo Corradini and added, 'please join us on Sunday for the 43rd running of Marcialonga, the excitement won't be just for the skiers, I guarantee it will be for everybody on and off the track'.
Among the number one favourites, there are several Marcialonga past winners such as Tord Asle Gjerdalen, Joergen and Anders Aukland, Jerry Ahrlin and Oskar Svärd, but also some of the best skiers in the Visma Ski Classics series such as Eliassen, and the homeboys Bruno Debertolis, Sergio Bonaldi, Loris Frasnelli and Nicola Morandini.
On the women's side, the Polish champion Justyna Kowalczyk would be better watch out for opponents such as Norgren, Smutna, Boner, Ishida and Shevchenko. The Women Elite group will start off 10 minutes before men.
Marcialonga is not just a long distance XC skiing race, and today, during the press conference, all the side events were carefully mentioned beginning with the brand new Marcialonga Baby event on Friday afternoon in Predazzo followed by the opening ceremony at 6pm in Ziano di Fiemme together with the show 'SciVolando sul 900'.
The Marcialonga Story vintage event is scheduled on Saturday 30 January at 9.30am in Lago di Tesero (XC Stadium), while Marcialonga Stars for charity, Minimarcialonga for kids and Marcialonga Young will follow early in the afternoon.
On Sunday at 7.50am, the 43rd Marcialonga will kick off in Moena, and Italy's public broadcaster RAI will get live from Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, at the foot of outstanding Dolomites, five minutes earlier.
What else to say? Stay tuned, Marcialonga is on its way!
