The “twin” race Marcialonga Arctic Ski Race in Norway
The ski-marathon Marcialonga takes place on Sunday January 28th 2024 in Fiemme and Fassa valleys (Trentino, Italy) and represents the first Grand Classics Event of the XV Ski Classics season. This race is a traditional one for any cross-country skier in the world, who can now register and book the precious bib.
The track from Moena to Cavalese has witnessed along these years many friendships; skiers have encountered new cultures, being part of one big family, Marcialonga’s.
The O.C. assigns bibs ‘numbers according to the athlete’s best ranking in the past two editions of Marcialonga, relating to the number of participants of said editions.
For those who register before Friday June 9th, there is a surprise. O.C. is randomly choose the lucky winner of a special prize, an “Ercolina cable training station”, a machine used by pro athletes and the best xco skiers to train the upper body. The draw takes place on Tuesday 13th.
At the same time, the “twin” race Marcialonga Arctic Ski Race, super event happening on March 9th in Bodø, among the enchanted territories of Norway, opens its doors to athletes.
Nature’s charm, culture, music and celebration represent linking elements between the two events, one happening in the fabulous Dolomites and the other in Bodø, 2024 Culture Capital City. Marcialonga Arctic Ski Race have already taken place in 2021 and 2022 too and the third edition of 2024, beyond a new location, offers a new format: the main goal is to become a great cross-country skiing festival, open to pro athletes as well as to children, by “mocking” the Italian ski-marathon. The whole Marcialonga staff is ready to share its 50 years-long experience with its Norwegian friends.
Recently, Ski Classics, the most important long distances cross-country skiing circuit, revealed the XV season’s calendar. Marcialonga represents the 7th Pro Tour Event. First stage takes place in Austria with Bad Gastein on December 9th-10th, moving to Italy with La Venosta on December 16th-17th and with Pustertaler Ski Marathon on January 13th, after the Christmas break. The Swiss Diagonela takes place on January 20th, then it is time for Marcialonga on January 28th and Jizerská50 in Czech Republic, the second Grand Classics Event. Sweden host the following two events on February 17th-18th, afterwards there are the last two Grand Classics Events: Vasaloppet on March 3rd and Birkebeinerrennet on March 16th. Ski Classics season ends in Norway in April with Reistadløpet, Summit 2 Senja and last Janteloppet, a new Pro Tour Event organised by the everlasting champion Petter Northug.
